Turning your problems over to God is an act of profound faith. It’s a declaration that you trust His wisdom and timing more than your own. But too often, after surrendering our burdens, we find ourselves tempted to grab them back, dissecting them with worry, or trying to solve them in our own limited strength. This tendency is natural, but it undermines the very trust we profess to have.
When you entrust something to God, you are saying, “I believe You are bigger than this. I trust You to handle it in a way I cannot.” Grabbing those problems back is like planting seeds and digging them up repeatedly to see if they’re growing—it disrupts the process. Faith requires patience and surrender. As Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
To truly release your burdens, focus on God’s promises rather than your problems. When anxiety creeps in, replace it with prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Grabbing your worries back signals a lack of trust in God’s ability to handle them. But remember, He sees the end from the beginning. His ways are higher, His wisdom is infinite, and His love for you is unfailing. Trusting Him fully means resisting the urge to meddle, even when you don’t yet see the outcome.
When you feel tempted to take your burdens back, take a deep breath and pray. Remind yourself that God is in control. Replace your worry with worship, your fear with faith, and your restlessness with reminders of His faithfulness. Let God carry what you cannot. Once you turn your problems over to Him, let them stay in His capable hands. Only then can you walk in the peace and freedom He promises to those who trust Him.
