This French toast will knock your socks off with how good it is. I first tried it in a restaurant and loved it so much I just had to go home and try to make it. I like how it adds a little variety to the weekend breakfast rotation and is so easy to make for how decadent it is.
Here are all my ingredients assembled.
You can use any type of milk or bread. I just always have almond milk on hand and like to use real French bread when I make my French toast. What’s missing in this picture is butter to melt in the pan.
You just beat your eggs and a little milk, add a few drops of almond extract, a couple shakes of cinnamon, some almonds and your batter is made.
I like to make mine in a pie plate because then I can lay the bread slices out in it to soak in the mixture. Leave them on each side for at least 2 minutes to really soak in the egg.
When you flip them you will be amazed how those nuts are on that bread. I always soak up and grab any left in the pie plate before grilling.
Get your pan nice and hot on med. heat with some melted butter and grill for about 4-5 minutes each side.
Really good served with real maple syrup and I topped mine with some fresh blueberries the last time I made. Delicious!
Almond French Toast
4 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup of slivered or shaved almonds
3-4 tablespoons butter
8 slices french bread
1/2 cup maple syrup
In a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk together cinnamon, eggs, milk, and almond extract and pour into a shallow container such as a pie plate. Dip bread in egg mixture, letting it soak on each side for 2 minutes. Fry slices until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side. Serve with syrup.
